Chinese Premier Li Qiang Meets Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Beijing
In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Beijing on Saturday. The meeting marked a new chapter in China-Indonesia relations, with both leaders expressing a strong commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
Premier Li highlighted the steady improvement of China-Indonesia relations, attributing it to the concerted efforts of both nations. He emphasized that the relationship has entered a new stage of jointly building a community with a shared future. “China is dedicated to being a good neighbor and partner to Indonesia,” Li stated. “We aim to jointly implement the important consensus reached by our heads of state, carry forward our traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust, and expand practical cooperation.”
Li called for strengthened synergy between their development strategies and encouraged further expansion of bilateral trade and investment. He proposed exploring potential cooperation in areas such as green minerals, photovoltaic wind power, the digital economy, marine scientific research, and environmental protection. “These efforts will add more momentum to both countries’ respective development,” he added.
On international affairs, Premier Li expressed China’s willingness to enhance communication and coordination with Indonesia on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations. He stressed the importance of practicing true multilateralism, safeguarding international equity and justice, and protecting the common interests of developing countries.
President Prabowo affirmed Indonesia’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and acknowledged issues related to Xinjiang as China’s internal affairs. He expressed support for China’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty. “Indonesia is keen to use the 75th anniversary of our diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to intensify exchanges with China at all levels,” Prabowo said.
He emphasized Indonesia’s desire to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and strengthen key projects like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway. Additionally, he expressed interest in deepening exchanges in education, tourism, and other humanities fields.
Prabowo also conveyed Indonesia’s deep appreciation for China’s significant role in promoting development in the Global South and protecting the interests of developing countries. “We look forward to continuing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China on international and regional affairs,” he remarked.
The meeting between the two leaders signifies a mutual commitment to not only enhance bilateral relations but also to contribute to regional stability and prosperity. Both nations appear poised to collaborate closely in pursuit of modernization and shared development goals.
