China’s newest aircraft carrier-based fighter jet, the J-15D, has made its first public appearance during an adaptive training session in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, on November 9. The unveiling comes just days before the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, commonly known as Airshow China.
The J-15D is a two-seat electronic warfare aircraft that combines electronic jamming capabilities with strike abilities. It is poised to play a crucial role in securing air superiority for aircraft carrier battle groups, enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy.
According to naval military expert Li Jian, the J-15D features significant upgrades compared to the standard J-15 fighter jet. “The J-15D boasts enhanced avionics, improved weapons systems, and an optimized airframe structure,” Li said. “These modifications are designed to boost combat capabilities and are better suited for operations on China’s newer aircraft carriers.”
The 15th Airshow China will run from November 12 to 17 in Zhuhai, showcasing the latest advancements in aviation and aerospace technology. The event is expected to attract global attention, with the J-15D being one of the highlights.
