Taiwan Compatriots’ Visits to Chinese Mainland Surge by 70% This Year
Since the beginning of this year, over 3 million entries by Taiwan compatriots have been recorded into the Chinese mainland, marking a remarkable 70 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to a spokesperson on Thursday.
Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, shared these figures during a recent press briefing, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for cross-Strait interactions.
“The significant rise in entries fully demonstrates that peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation are the prevailing sentiments among Taiwan compatriots,” Chen noted. “It reflects the common aspirations of the people in the Taiwan region.”
Chen emphasized that the Chinese mainland has consistently welcomed and supported the extensive participation of Taiwan compatriots in cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation across various fields. The aim is to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
“We will continue to improve systems and policies to enhance the well-being of Taiwan compatriots,” Chen said. “Through exchanges and integration, we will foster closer connections between compatriots on both sides.”
