In a significant milestone for China’s aviation industry, Air China’s domestically built C919 aircraft, adorned with the Chinese national flag, made its debut in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Thursday. The flight, designated CA088, landed smoothly at Macao International Airport and was greeted with a ceremonial water salute, symbolizing honor and celebration in aviation tradition.
The arrival of the C919 in Macao is part of its participation in the 13th Macao Business Aviation Exhibition. Invited by the event’s organizers, the state-of-the-art aircraft will be on display for four days, offering attendees a first-hand look at China’s advancements in commercial aviation technology.
This special flight holds dual significance, commemorating both the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. The presence of the C919 in Macao underscores the strengthening ties and shared progress between the Chinese mainland and the Macao SAR.
Captain Hao Xin, deputy chief of Air China’s C919 flight squadron, highlighted the aircraft’s successful operations since its induction. “Since receiving our first C919 in August, we have successfully operated routes between Beijing and Shanghai, as well as Beijing and Hangzhou,” he said. “We plan to expand our services to include Beijing-Wuhan and other destinations in the coming months.”
The C919 showcased in Macao is the second of its kind received by Air China, delivered on November 5. The airline took delivery of its first C919 on August 29, marking a new chapter in China’s commercial aviation sector. Commercial operations with the first aircraft began on September 10, signaling Air China’s commitment to integrating domestically produced aircraft into its fleet.
The C919, developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), represents China’s efforts to compete in the global aviation market and reduce reliance on foreign aircraft manufacturers. Its deployment on major domestic routes and appearances at international exhibitions reflect the country’s ambition to showcase its technological advancements to the world.
