China is set to enhance the protection of maritime passengers through a proposed revision of its maritime law. The draft aims to improve the rights and interests of passengers by increasing transport carriers' liability limits for personal injury and property damage compensation.
Submitted to the ongoing session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, scheduled from Monday to Friday for deliberation, the draft contains 311 articles across 16 chapters. One of its key provisions is the unification of liability limits for compensation in both domestic and international maritime passenger transportation.
The revision also proposes adjustments to the rights and obligations of all parties involved in maritime activities, reflecting the evolving dynamics of the maritime industry. This marks a significant update to China's maritime law, which has been in force since 1993.
