China Eastern Airlines Successfully Completes First C919 Engine Replacement

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the first engine replacement for the world’s first delivered C919 aircraft. This accomplishment marks a major advancement in the maintenance capabilities of China’s homegrown large passenger jets.

The engine replacement process is one of the most complex tasks in aircraft maintenance. Over nine days, CEA’s maintenance engineers undertook 60 routine tasks and more than 10 non-routine tasks, meticulously ensuring all test parameters were normal. The successful replacement not only verifies the feasibility of the C919’s engine replacement process but also enhances the aircraft’s safety and operational reliability.

“This achievement will ensure the sustainable operation of the C919 aircraft in CEA in the future and enhance its performance,” said Dong Haoyang, manager of the C919 engine replacement project at China Eastern Xibei Airlines, as cited by CCTV+.

Currently, CEA operates seven C919 aircraft, serving five commercial routes that connect Shanghai with major cities including Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi’an. The successful engine replacement signifies a leap forward in China’s aviation industry, showcasing the nation’s growing expertise in aircraft maintenance and engineering.

Other airlines, such as Air China and China Southern Airlines, have also commenced commercial operations with the C919 aircraft, reflecting the expanding role of China’s domestically produced passenger jets in the global aviation market.
