Cuban President Diaz-Canel Meets Senior Chinese Official to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral ties, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met with Li Shulei, a senior official from the Communist Party of China (CPC), in Havana on Tuesday. Li, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department, led a CPC delegation to Cuba to attend the sixth theoretical seminar between the two parties.

Li conveyed warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. He noted that President Xi and President Diaz-Canel have reached important consensuses on developing both party-to-party and state-to-state relations, setting a clear path for the enduring friendship between China and Cuba.

“China is ready to work with Cuba to implement the important consensuses reached by our top leaders,” Li stated. “We aim to deepen traditional ties, expand friendly cooperation, and support each other on issues concerning our core interests. Together, we can collaborate closely on international and regional matters and jointly build a China-Cuba community with a shared future.”

President Diaz-Canel expressed his sincere gratitude for China’s support in Cuba’s economic and social development. “We highly value the special friendship between our two parties and countries,” he said. “Cuba is willing to strengthen exchanges on governance, deepen practical cooperation across various fields, and enhance international collaboration with China. Together, we can work towards building a Cuba-China community with a shared future.”

During his visit, Li also met with Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power and president of Cuba’s Council of State, and held talks with Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of organization of the PCC Central Committee. He also paid a visit to General Raul Castro, leader of the Cuban Revolution.

On Wednesday, Li was a keynote speaker at a theoretical seminar held in Havana under the theme “Advancing the Socialist Cause and Building a Shared Future.” The seminar aimed at strengthening ideological exchanges and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two nations.
