The 16th BRICS Summit concluded on October 24 in Kazan, Russia, marking a significant milestone in promoting collaboration among the member countries. As the summit wrapped up, South Africans expressed optimism about the future of BRICS cooperation and its impact on their nation.
Speaking with CGTN Stringer, local resident Nokukhanya Khanyi Zulu highlighted the positive developments stemming from South Africa’s involvement in the BRICS mechanism. “South Africa has had many benefits from the BRICS,” she said. “More South African products have been exported to other countries, namely South African wine, which is growing in popularity, and rooibos tea.”
The increased export of these quintessential South African goods reflects the strengthening economic ties facilitated by BRICS partnerships. The accessibility of new markets has bolstered local industries and contributed to economic growth.
Beyond trade, locals are enthusiastic about expanding cooperation in culture, education, technology, and tourism. “We are looking forward to more BRICS cooperation in various fields,” Zulu added, emphasizing the potential for holistic development.
Clea Schultz Mofokeng, another South African, shared similar sentiments, particularly regarding educational exchanges. “Confucius Institutes provide good opportunities for South Africans to learn Chinese and study in China,” she noted. These institutes have become a gateway for cultural exchange and academic advancement, fostering mutual understanding between nations.
The optimism among South Africans underscores the significance of the BRICS alliance in shaping a collaborative future. As member countries continue to work together, there is a shared hope that such partnerships will lead to sustained prosperity and stronger global influence for all involved.
