U.S.-UK Coalition Launches Airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah Airport: Houthi Media

The Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported that the U.S.-UK naval coalition conducted airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Hodeidah airport in Yemen on Wednesday night. Residents in the port city shared accounts on social media, describing two loud explosions and flames rising from the vicinity of the airport.

Details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage remain undisclosed, as the Houthi group, which governs much of northern Yemen, often refrains from releasing such information. The U.S.-UK coalition has not confirmed the airstrikes.

The reported attack follows a day after the Houthis claimed to have launched a hypersonic ballistic missile towards Tel Aviv, a claim that received no immediate response from Israel. In July, the Houthi group also claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Tel Aviv, which Israeli media reported resulted in one death and five injuries.

Hodeidah airport has been closed since late 2014, following the Houthi seizure of several northern cities, including Hodeidah. Since November last year, the Houthi group has intensified rocket and drone attacks targeting what they describe as “Israeli-linked” ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, expressing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

In response to these attacks, the U.S.-UK naval coalition stationed in the region has conducted intermittent air raids and strikes against Houthi targets in an effort to deter the group’s activities.
