Anna Kalinskaya surged into the quarterfinals of the WTA Ningbo Open on Thursday, securing a straight-sets victory over home favorite Yue Yuan. The Russian, ranked world number 12, demonstrated resilience and skill as she dispatched Yuan with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
After an early exit in the round of 32 at the Wuhan Open last week, Kalinskaya returned to China with renewed determination. She asserted herself from the outset, breaking Yuan in the ninth game of the first set after an unforced error. Kalinskaya capitalized on the momentum to take the first set 6-3.
The 25-year-old continued her dominance in the second set, showcasing the form that has marked her as a rising star on the WTA Tour since reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open in January. Despite Yuan’s efforts, the 26-year-old was unable to overcome Kalinskaya’s prowess on the court.
Kalinskaya sealed the match after another 6-3 set, wrapping up the game following an unforced error from Yuan. Next up for the Russian is Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals, where she aims to continue her impressive run.
