China and Tajikistan Strengthen Ties to Boost Belt and Road Cooperation

Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced on Tuesday that China is prepared to collaborate closely with Tajikistan to enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. During a meeting with Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda on the sidelines of the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Li emphasized the importance of exploring potential partnerships across various sectors to advance common development.

Li highlighted China’s intention to align its development strategies with those of Tajikistan, focusing on strengthening ties in trade, investment, mining, and agriculture. He also pointed to emerging fields such as new energy and the digital economy as areas ripe for collaboration. Emphasizing the need for improved connectivity, Li called for enhanced cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges to further mutual growth.

Furthermore, Li expressed China’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the first China-Central Asia Summit. He stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation and jointly pursuing the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. Li advocated for a fair and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization, emphasizing the practice of true multilateralism to uphold international fairness and justice.

Prime Minister Rasulzoda congratulated China on its significant achievements over the past 75 years and expressed gratitude for China’s longstanding support of Tajikistan’s development. He affirmed Tajikistan’s readiness to work closely with China to fully realize the important consensus reached by both heads of state.

Rasulzoda underscored the need to enhance exchanges at all levels and promote Belt and Road cooperation. He stressed deepening collaboration in trade, investment, e-commerce, energy, industry, transportation, and agriculture. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of expanding efforts in emerging sectors like the digital and green economies. Cultural and people-to-people exchanges were also identified as key areas for further cooperation.

Reiterating Tajikistan’s support for China’s vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, Rasulzoda expressed eagerness to work with China to promote cooperation between Central Asian countries and China. He emphasized the aim to deepen cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and the SCO, jointly upholding regional and global peace, stability, and development.
