China’s State Council Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office has officially congratulated Sam Hou Fai on his election as the sixth-term Chief Executive designate of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). Sam secured an overwhelming majority, winning 394 out of 398 valid ballots in the election held on Sunday.
The office hailed the successful election as a significant milestone in upholding the principle of “patriots administering Macao” and advancing the successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” with Macao characteristics. Taking place ahead of the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, the election reflects the Macao society’s strong support for the “One Country, Two Systems” principle and confidence in the region’s development path over the past quarter-century.
Sam Hou Fai, the former president of Macao’s Court of Final Appeal, has garnered widespread recognition for his deep commitment to Macao and the country. The State Council’s office noted Sam’s effective role in safeguarding national security and upholding the constitutional order of the Macao SAR.
