Aryna Sabalenka Advances to Wuhan Open Quarterfinals and Shares Love for Chinese Cuisine

Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open in central China’s Hubei Province. She is set to face Magdalena Frech of Poland later today.

Sabalenka, currently ranked World No. 2, showcased her formidable skills by defeating Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the second round and Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in the last 16.

“I’m super happy with the win, especially against Katerina, someone who fights until the last point,” Sabalenka said. “Expectations are always the same, but it’s about fighting for every point and focusing on yourself. I’m trying to do my best in each match and hopefully get this title.”

Known for her aggressive style and resilience on the court, Sabalenka credits her unwavering determination to her father’s advice from her childhood. “When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me that he wouldn’t be angry as long as he saw that I’m not giving up and I’m fighting until the last point,” she shared. “I was always a fighter and I never gave up. If I did, I would feel so bad for so long. So I’m trying to bring that fight and give my best every time I’m on the court.”

Off the court, Sabalenka has been enjoying Chinese cuisine, indulging in dishes like Peking duck and fried rice. “I tried Peking duck in Beijing. It was really good,” she said with a smile. “I actually like Chinese restaurants. I love orange chicken and this spicy fried chicken with nuts that comes with fried rice. When I’m here, I don’t know why, but I eat fried rice most of the time.”

As she prepares for the quarterfinal match, Sabalenka remains focused on her goals. Fans around the world are eager to see if she can claim the Wuhan Open title.
