China Pledges to Deepen ‘Diamond Hexagon’ Cooperation with Cambodia

In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday in Vientiane, expressing China’s readiness to enrich the “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework and deepen the China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the East Asia cooperation leaders’ summit, Premier Li emphasized the enduring friendship between China and Cambodia. “Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Cambodian leaders, our community with a shared future has entered a new era of high quality, high level, and high standards,” Li stated.

Li reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Cambodia in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and in safeguarding its sovereignty and strategic independence. He expressed China’s willingness to carry forward the generations-long friendship, deepen strategic mutual trust, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.

Highlighting economic collaboration, Li pointed out that China is eager to align development strategies with Cambodia by accelerating the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy. He called for the joint implementation of the new action plan for building the China-Cambodia community with a shared future.

The Chinese premier also urged for the acceleration of the cooperation plan for the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the preliminary work on the China-Cambodia railway. “We should actively promote the construction of the ‘Fish and Rice Corridor,’ strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and energy, and push for more tangible results,” Li said.

Li encouraged more Chinese enterprises to invest in Cambodia and expressed willingness to import more quality agricultural products from the country. He added that China is ready to strengthen multilateral coordination with Cambodia to safeguard common strategic interests.

The meeting underscores the deepening ties between China and Cambodia, setting a robust agenda for future cooperation across various sectors. The commitments made are expected to bring mutual benefits and contribute to regional stability and development.
