Chinese Rising Star Bu Yunchaokete Upsets Rublev to Reach China Open Semifinals

Chinese tennis sensation Bu Yunchaokete achieved a stunning victory over world No. 6 Andrey Rublev at the China Open on Monday, marking the biggest win of his career and thrilling the home crowd.

The 22-year-old continued his remarkable run in the tournament, having already made history by defeating world No. 18 Lorenzo Musetti to reach his first ATP 500 quarterfinal. Bu showcased his talent with a superb forehand winner down the line, capturing the attention of tennis fans worldwide.

In a tightly contested match, Bu took the opening set 7-5 and maintained his momentum to lead 5-3 in the second set. Despite Rublev narrowing the gap and facing a break point at 5-4, Bu remained composed. He saved the break point with a powerful overhead smash, denying the Russian any opportunity to stage a comeback.

Bu sealed the match 7-5, 6-4 with an ace, securing his first victory over a top 10 player since turning professional. With this win, he advances to the semifinals, just two matches away from claiming his first ATP Tour title. He will face top-seeded Jannik Sinner in the next round.

“I defeated a top 20 player in the second round, and this time I beat a top 10 player,” Bu said after the match. “Now I have reached the semifinals, and I know the level of my opponent will be like world number one or number two. Of course, I feel very excited, just like in this match, and it was really crazy that more than 10,000 fans came to support me. There was no excuse not to fight hard, and I quite enjoyed the match.”

“I think the next match will be the same because it is the National Day holiday, and many fans will come to watch,” he added. “I really appreciate their support.”
