Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy, Tie Ning, attended the inauguration ceremony of Mexico’s first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, in Mexico City on Tuesday.
Sheinbaum, 62, was sworn in after a decisive victory in the presidential elections held in June, marking a historic moment for Mexico’s political landscape.
During a meeting following the ceremony, Tie Ning, who is also the vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress—the Chinese mainland’s top legislative body—conveyed President Xi’s heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to President Sheinbaum.
“China and Mexico have seen significant growth in our comprehensive strategic partnership in recent years,” Tie remarked. “Our relationship has become increasingly strategic, complementary, and mutually beneficial.”
Tie expressed China’s readiness to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with Mexico, aiming to become trustworthy friends and partners in shared development along the path to modernization.
President Sheinbaum expressed her deep appreciation to President Xi for sending a special envoy to her inauguration. “Please convey my high respect and sincere greetings to President Xi,” she said. “Mexico and China are good partners who support each other.”
She emphasized that her administration attaches great importance to relations with China and is committed to enhancing friendly exchanges across various fields. “We look forward to promoting greater development of Mexico-China relations,” Sheinbaum added.
The high-level meeting between the two nations underscores the growing importance of Sino-Mexican relations, with potential implications for economic, cultural, and political cooperation in the years ahead.
