Zheng Qinwen Advances to China Open Quarterfinals for the First Time

Chinese tennis star Zheng Qinwen came back from a set down to defeat American Amanda Anisimova, advancing to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 China Open for the first time.

Fifth seed Zheng faced a challenging start, as Anisimova took the first set 6-3. However, the home favorite bounced back in dominant fashion, showcasing her resilience and skill. Zheng leveled the match by taking the second set 6-1, capitalizing on a backhand winner to reach break point and seize control of the momentum.

In the decisive third set, Zheng continued her dominance, winning 6-2 with a series of powerful serves that left Anisimova struggling to keep up. “I am very happy just to get the victory today and arrive for the first time in the quarterfinals,” Zheng said after the match.

Zheng will face Russia’s Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals on Friday, aiming to continue her impressive run in front of her home crowd.
