Tottenham Humiliates Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford

Tottenham Hotspur delivered a commanding performance at Old Trafford on Sunday, defeating Manchester United 3-0 in a Premier League clash. Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke secured the emphatic victory against a 10-man United side.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs climbed to eighth place in the league table with 10 points after six games, while Manchester United, who saw captain Bruno Fernandes sent off in the 42nd minute for a high challenge on James Maddison, languish in 12th with seven points. The loss raises further questions about United manager Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

“I thought it was an outstanding performance,” said Spurs manager Postecoglou. “We started the game well, scored a great goal and probably should have had two or three. The pressure then overwhelms them and they get the red card. After that, I thought we controlled the game well. Just an outstanding effort from all the lads.”

Tottenham took the lead in the third minute when defender Micky van de Ven made a surging run before delivering a low cross into the six-yard box for Johnson to tap in his fourth goal in four games.

“Eleven versus eleven, or eleven versus ten, we completely dominated the game,” said Johnson. “We had a clear game plan and we did exactly what we wanted to do.”

The situation worsened for Manchester United when Fernandes received a straight red card before halftime, leaving the home side with an uphill battle.

“To concede a goal after two or three minutes like that did something to our belief,” said United manager Ten Hag. “Totally unnecessary. This is not good enough. We have to accept this and get better. Focus on the next game and do things better than we did today.”

Spurs doubled their advantage just after the break when Lisandro Martinez slipped on the halfway line. Johnson sprinted away, and his deflected cross fell to Kulusevski, who acrobatically clipped the ball past goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The third goal came in the 77th minute, with Solanke poking the ball home from close range after Pape Matar Sarr headed on a corner from substitute Lucas Bergvall.

As scores of frustrated United fans left early, the visiting supporters reveled in their team’s triumph, chanting, “Is there a fire drill?”

“We struggled a bit,” admitted Fernandes. “We tried to force it a little bit, to rush it and go too quick. When they have the high line we made mistakes on the ball and then we got punished and it didn’t go the way we wanted from there. Then the red card makes it worse.”

The victory marks a significant boost for Tottenham as they continue their Premier League campaign, while Manchester United will need to regroup quickly to turn their season around.
