Rongjiang County in southwest China’s Guizhou Province became a vibrant hub of international camaraderie on Saturday as the Village Super League (VSL) International Friendlies kicked off. Co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Argentine Embassy in China, the event brought together diplomats and local football enthusiasts in a celebration of sport and cultural exchange.
The highlight of the event was a friendly match between a team of diplomats and the VSL club Luohanguo. The Diplomats’ Team, donning pink jerseys, comprised 19 diplomats from 12 North and South American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, and Dominica. Despite language barriers and diverse nationalities, both teams showcased a shared passion for football, fostering a spirit of unity and friendship on the pitch.
Played in two energetic 25-minute halves, the match was a display of skill and sportsmanship. Spectators cheered as the teams traded goals, ultimately concluding the game in an exciting 2-2 draw. Beyond the scoreline, the event allowed the diplomats to experience the rich ethnic customs of Guizhou and the dynamic atmosphere of the Village Super League.
A total of 24 diplomats from 15 countries attended the event, immersing themselves in the local culture and strengthening international ties. The Village Super League, known for promoting grassroots football and community engagement, provided a unique platform for cross-cultural interaction and showcased the unifying power of sports.
