Medvedev, Sinner secure places in quarterfinals at China Open

Third-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev has advanced to the quarterfinals of the China Open after a straight-sets victory over France’s Adrian Mannarino on Saturday in Beijing.
The 28-year-old Medvedev secured a 7-6(8-6), 6-2 win in the round of 16, showcasing his resilience and skill on the hard courts. Mannarino put up a tough fight in the first set, leveling the score at 4-4 with a powerful forehand down the line.
The opening set culminated in a tense tiebreaker, where Medvedev angled a forehand that Mannarino, ranked 44th in the world, couldn’t return, taking the tiebreak 8-6.
Building on his momentum from defeating Gael Monfils in the previous round for his 40th win of the year, Medvedev aimed to bolster his push towards the ATP Finals in November. In the second set, he broke Mannarino’s serve to go ahead 3-2, landing a forehand in the corner.
Medvedev didn’t drop another game, wrapping up the set 6-2 and securing his place in his 75th Tour-level quarterfinal. He will next face Italy’s Flavio Cabolli, who defeated Russia’s Pavel Kotov 6-4, 6-2.
