In a significant milestone marking half a century of diplomatic relations, China and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the maturity of the bilateral ties during a meeting with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the president of Brazil, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the two nations have become mature strategic partners with a shared vision for global development. “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil,” Wang noted, underscoring the enduring significance of their relationship.
During the meeting, Wang expressed China’s full support for Brazil as it prepares to host the upcoming G20 summit. He affirmed China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Brazil to ensure the summit’s success, reflecting the countries’ mutual interests in promoting global economic stability and growth.
The two officials also discussed joint efforts to address international challenges, announcing plans to establish a “Friends of Peace” platform on the Ukraine crisis. This initiative, involving China, Brazil, and other like-minded Global South countries, aims to facilitate peaceful resolutions and contribute to global peace efforts.
Celso Amorim conveyed Brazil’s eagerness to work alongside China in planning high-level exchanges and expanding cooperation across various fields. “Brazil is willing to deepen cooperation with China,” Amorim stated, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in trade, technology, and cultural exchanges.
The meeting between Wang and Amorim signifies a continued commitment to strengthening ties between China and Brazil, two of the world’s largest developing countries. As they celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, both nations are poised to enhance their strategic partnership, contributing to regional stability and global progress.
