Smart, Green Innovations Shine at China-ASEAN Expo

At the bustling China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning City, south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, cutting-edge smart and green technologies are capturing the spotlight, signaling a new era of cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

One of the standout exhibits is an intelligent loader developed by Guangxi LiuGong Machinery Co., Ltd. Guided remotely, this driverless mechanical loader can transport tonnes of materials with precision and efficiency, reshaping operations in mining and construction sectors across ASEAN countries.

“Catering to the demands for high-end, diversified, and personalized products in the construction machinery market, LiuGong has focused on the electrification, digitization, interconnectivity, and intelligence of machinery,” said Li Dongchun, a senior manager at LiuGong. “We’ve invested double-digit annual growth in R&D to achieve this.”

Showcasing eight electric products, including loaders, excavators, and forklifts, LiuGong is responding to the growing interest in Chinese-made smart and green products throughout ASEAN.

China’s trade with ASEAN has seen steady expansion over the years. Official data shows that China has been ASEAN’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral trade surging from 876.4 billion yuan (about $124.6 billion) in 2004 to 6.41 trillion yuan in 2023, averaging an 11 percent annual growth rate.

As China accelerates efforts to foster tech-intensive and environmentally friendly industries, smart and green products are drawing significant attention from both exhibitors and visitors at the expo.

A signing ceremony at the expo on Tuesday witnessed 109 deals inked in strategic emerging sectors such as new energy, advanced manufacturing, and electronic information.

Kao Kim Hourn, secretary-general of ASEAN, stated that China and ASEAN countries are exploring new cooperation opportunities in fields like artificial intelligence and clean energy, furthering their common goals of innovation and sustainable development.
