Clare Daly, a former member of the European Parliament, has highlighted China’s potential in revitalizing global multilateral organizations.
Speaking on the occasion of China’s 75th anniversary, Daly praised the nation’s achievements, stating, “What China has achieved—it has been awesomely amazing.” She emphasized the importance of China taking a more vocal stance in promoting multilateralism, saying, “If I could wish for anything, it would be that they would do it a little bit more vocally.”
Daly expressed concern over the weakening of international organizations and the dangerous gap this creates. She urged a return to the foundational ideals of the United Nations, noting that these principles are more crucial now than ever before. “The voices of reason have to take hold,” she insisted, highlighting the global challenges that humanity faces today.
Addressing the developments around BRICS nations, Daly welcomed the idea of an alternative that challenges existing global powers. She highlighted the potential for an alternative global currency and economic structures that provide countries with more options. “Countries don’t have to be handcuffed; they can survive without that link,” she remarked.
Daly also praised China’s role in fostering mutual benefits through cooperation with other nations. She pointed out that while many powers are active globally, China’s approach has been particularly beneficial to the citizens of those countries. “China has managed to do it in a way which has been beneficial to the citizens of those countries,” she said, emphasizing the importance of relationships based on mutual interests.
In conclusion, Daly called for a coordinated push towards a revamped United Nations and the rejuvenation of international law. She believes that China’s leadership and commitment to multilateralism can play a significant role in this global effort.
