China showcased its badminton prowess by clinching four titles at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) China Open in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, on Sunday.
The highlight of the tournament was local favorite Weng Hongyang’s impressive victory over Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in the men’s singles final. This match marked their fourth encounter, with Naraoka having won two of their previous three meetings. However, Weng capitalized on the home advantage this time, displaying exceptional form in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The 25-year-old Chinese shuttler took control early in the first game, dominating the net play to secure a 10-7 lead. He maintained his momentum and sealed the opener 21-17 with a powerful smash that left the audience roaring. In the second game, Weng continued to apply pressure, leading to a 21-12 victory after Naraoka hit wide on match point.
This triumph marked Weng’s maiden Super 1000-level title. Reflecting on his achievement, he credited his coach for the meticulous preparation. “This is my first Super 1000 title and I feel really happy,” Weng expressed. “Ahead of the final, my coach made detailed tactical plans for me, and I executed them well in the contest. I think this is the key to today’s victory.”
China’s dominant performance at the tournament underscores its significant role in the global badminton landscape, inspiring fans and aspiring players across Asia and the world.
