UN Official Highlights China’s Rural Development as Model for Global Progress

At the second China-ASEAN Digital Agriculture Forum held on Friday, Simon William Clements, Deputy Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) China Office, praised China’s remarkable achievements in agricultural and rural development.

“China’s experience in rural development has significantly enriched the world,” said Clements. “The WFP is dedicated to sharing China’s expertise, experience, and technology throughout the region and the world.”

The forum brought together experts and officials from China and ASEAN countries to discuss the role of digital technology in advancing agriculture and rural areas. Participants explored ways to leverage innovation to improve food security, increase productivity, and promote sustainable development.

Clements highlighted how China’s advancements in digital agriculture have transformed rural communities, lifted millions out of poverty, and contributed to global food security. He emphasized the importance of international collaboration in sharing best practices and technologies.

“By embracing digital solutions, we can tackle some of the most pressing challenges in agriculture today,” he noted. “China’s success offers valuable lessons for other countries aiming to modernize their agricultural sectors.”

The WFP China Office plans to continue partnering with Chinese institutions to facilitate knowledge exchange and support capacity-building initiatives across Asia and beyond.
