Chinese badminton players celebrated significant victories at the Hong Kong Open, clinching two of the five titles on offer at the tournament that concluded on Sunday in south China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
In the women’s singles final, third-seeded Han Yue showcased exceptional skill and determination to overcome Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani with a straight-sets victory of 21-18, 21-7. This triumph marks Han’s first title at the Hong Kong Open and continues China’s legacy in the event, following Chen Yufei’s win in 2019.
“It was not easy at all,” Han shared after the match. “She created many challenges for me. Fortunately, I was well-prepared for the final.”
The mixed doubles final saw an all-Chinese showdown, highlighting the nation’s dominance in the discipline. Second seeds Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin defeated top seeds Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping in a closely contested match, securing a 21-19, 21-19 victory. Wei Yaxin successfully defended her title, having won the event in the previous year with her former partner Guo Xinwa.
The impressive performances by Chinese athletes at the Hong Kong Open reflect the depth of talent within the national badminton team and underscore China’s prominent position in the sport on the international stage.
