Chinese Ministry of Commerce Opposes U.S. Tariff Hikes on Chinese Goods

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the United States’ use of Section 301 to increase tariffs on certain Chinese goods. In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry criticized the U.S. actions as typical practices of unilateralism and protectionism.

According to the ministry, China has made serious representations to the United States multiple times regarding this issue. The Chinese side emphasized that the U.S. measures have not only undermined the international trade order and jeopardized the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains, but have also failed to address the U.S.’s own trade deficit and industrial competitiveness problems. Instead, these actions have led to higher prices for imported goods in the United States.

The ministry also highlighted a recent report on the United States’ compliance with World Trade Organization rules, which continues to express concerns over U.S. abuse of Section 301.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce urged the U.S. side to immediately correct its wrongdoing, adding that China will take resolute measures to safeguard the interests of Chinese enterprises.
