Beijing—China and Botswana have announced the establishment of a strategic partnership, marking a new chapter in their bilateral relations. The announcement was made on Thursday when Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Botswanan President Mokgweetsi Masisi in Beijing, ahead of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
President Masisi is in Beijing to attend the FOCAC Summit, whose opening ceremony was held earlier that day. During their meeting, President Xi highlighted the longstanding friendship between China and Botswana, emphasizing the sincere support the two nations have offered each other over the years.
