Xi Jinping Pledges to Deepen China-Guinea Friendship and Mutual Support

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Guinean President Mamady Doumbouya on Monday in Beijing during the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The two leaders vowed to cultivate and carry forward the traditional friendship between China and Guinea, strengthening mutual support on issues involving each other’s core interests and major concerns.

President Xi noted that Guinea is the first sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with China, and next month marks the 65th anniversary of their bilateral ties. He emphasized China’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Guinea in areas such as infrastructure construction, resource development, rural development, poverty alleviation, medical care, and health.

“China will help Guinea translate its rich resources into a driving force for development,” Xi said, adding that strengthening solidarity and cooperation with developing countries like Guinea is the cornerstone of China’s diplomacy. He expressed readiness to work with Guinea in promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

President Doumbouya affirmed Guinea’s adherence to the one-China policy, stating that there is only one China in the world. He expressed gratitude for China’s assistance in Guinea’s economic and social development, highlighting how Chinese investment has promoted economic growth and improved people’s livelihoods in Guinea.

“The investment of Chinese enterprises in Guinea has set an example of mutual benefit and win-win outcomes,” Doumbouya said. He expressed confidence that the upcoming summit would be a success and would further promote cooperation in infrastructure, energy, mining, transportation, and tourism.
