In a significant move to bolster the development of China’s western region, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Friday. The meeting focused on reviewing policies and measures aimed at opening up new prospects for large-scale development in the western areas.
The meeting emphasized the importance of well-coordinated environmental conservation, expansive opening up, and high-quality development. It called for accelerating the creation of a new development pattern to enhance the overall regional strength and sustainable development capacity of the western region.
According to a statement released after the meeting, there is a need to deepen comprehensive reforms, further unleash and develop productive forces, invigorate society, and forge a path of Chinese modernization that aligns with the realities of the western region.
The CPC leadership urged efforts to develop specialty industries that leverage local strengths, enhance technological innovation capabilities, and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
High-level environmental conservation was highlighted as a key priority, with calls to build a beautiful western region, intensify pollution prevention and control, and advance green and low-carbon development.
The meeting also stressed the importance of enhancing economic openness in the western region, strengthening the guarantee capacity of energy and resources, and promoting the construction of clean energy bases.
Measures will be taken to advance new urbanization in accordance with local conditions, consolidate poverty alleviation achievements, and prevent large-scale relapsing into poverty in rural areas.
Furthermore, the meeting underscored the necessity of forging a strong sense of community among the Chinese nation to safeguard ethnic unity and stability in border areas.
