In a significant move to bolster international cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with foreign parliamentary leaders in Beijing on Tuesday. The meeting marked the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the National People’s Congress’s (NPC) affiliation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the 2024 interregional seminar on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for parliaments of developing countries.
Welcoming the delegates from various continents, President Xi emphasized, “We are all members of the Global South.” He highlighted the shared vision and solidarity among the countries, stating, “Despite different national conditions, China and the countries are all good brothers and good partners with a shared vision.”
Addressing the rapidly evolving global landscape, Xi expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with other nations to advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits all. He underscored the importance of building a community with a shared future for humanity and transforming the Earth into a harmonious family.
“Exchanges between legislative bodies are an important part of state-to-state relations,” Xi stressed. He called on legislative bodies to play an active role in fostering relations based on equality and mutual trust, expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, promoting open and inclusive exchanges, advancing global governance characterized by fairness and equity, and contributing uniquely to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
During the meeting, President Xi also briefed the foreign parliamentary leaders on the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, held in mid-July. The session focused on key issues affecting China’s development and its role in the international community.
