The three Shenzhou-18 crew members aboard the orbiting China Space Station (CSS), Commander Ye Guangfu, Li Cong, and Li Guangsu, celebrated the Paris Summer Olympics and China’s 16th National Fitness Day on Thursday.
In a video released by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), the taikonauts held their own space games, beginning with a mock torch relay. Commander Ye Guangfu, dressed in an extravehicular suit, handed an improvised torch to Li Cong. Floating effortlessly over a hurdle, Li Cong passed the torch to Li Guangsu. Demonstrating remarkable skill, Li Guangsu performed an upright long jump before returning the torch to the commander, who concluded the relay with a graceful backward jump.
The space-based celebration showcases the crew’s dedication to physical fitness and their enthusiasm for global sporting events, even while conducting their mission in orbit. Their creative adaptation of Olympic traditions highlights the unique experiences of life aboard the CSS.
The Shenzhou-18 mission continues China’s advancements in space exploration, contributing valuable research while fostering a spirit of international camaraderie and cultural exchange.
