Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative and State Councilor Shen Yiqin is set to attend the closing ceremony and other events of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris from August 9 to 11, announced the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

According to a statement by Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, Shen will also visit Serbia from August 12 to 14 at the invitation of the Serbian government.

Mao emphasized China’s strong commitment to sports and active participation in the international Olympic Movement. During President Xi’s visit to France in May this year, he expressed support for France in hosting a successful Olympic Games in Paris.

Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony, and State Councilor Shen Yiqin will attend the closing ceremony of the event, both as President Xi’s special representatives.

“This fully demonstrates China’s dedication to and support for the international Olympic cause and France’s efforts as the host nation. China applauds the success we’ve already seen in hosting the Paris 2024 Games and wishes it full success in the coming days,” Mao stated.

On the upcoming visit to Serbia, Mao noted that China and Serbia are steadfast friends, with bilateral relations experiencing robust growth under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state.

In May this year, President Xi paid a successful state visit to Serbia. The two leaders jointly announced plans to build a community with a shared future in the new era, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.

During her visit, Shen will engage in in-depth discussions with Serbian leaders to implement the important understandings reached between the two heads of state, explore deeper practical cooperation, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges. This aims to elevate China-Serbia relations to a new level.
