China and Indonesia Unite to Promote Peaceful Resolution of Ukraine Crisis

In a significant diplomatic move, China and Indonesia have pledged to work together to promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Ukraine crisis. On Tuesday, Li Hui, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs, met with Umar Hadi, Director General for American and European Affairs at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Jakarta.

Amid growing concerns over the risks of escalation and spillover effects from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Li Hui emphasized the urgent need for all parties to collaborate in de-escalating tensions. “The priority is for all parties to work together to cool down the situation,” Li stated, highlighting the fragile state of international relations affected by the crisis.

Li Hui also mentioned the positive international response to the “six common understandings” issued jointly by China and Brazil, aimed at a political settlement of the conflict. “China is ready to work with Indonesia to carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit,” he added, referencing the historic principles established at the 1955 Asian-African Conference held in Bandung, Indonesia. “We aim to create conditions conducive to the early resumption of direct talks and negotiations between the relevant parties.”

Umar Hadi praised China’s proactive role in seeking a political solution to the Ukraine crisis. “Indonesia highly values China’s leading role and appreciates the positive impact of the six common understandings,” Hadi remarked. He affirmed Indonesia’s willingness to collaborate with China and other stakeholders to find a peaceful resolution. “We are committed to working together to find a solution to the crisis,” he said.

The meeting between the two officials underscores the shared commitment of China and Indonesia to uphold principles of peace and diplomacy in addressing international conflicts. By advocating for dialogue and negotiation, both nations aim to mitigate the potential for further instability in the global arena.

The Ukraine crisis has been a focal point of international concern, with repercussions felt far beyond Europe. The joint efforts of China and Indonesia signal a move toward greater collaboration among Asian nations in promoting global peace and stability.
