Paris, France — Xie Yu claimed China’s third gold at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, winning the men’s 10-meter air pistol shooting final on Sunday.
Xie secured victory with a score of 240.9 points, edging out Italy’s Federico Nilo Maldini by a slim margin of 0.9 points. Maldini took silver with 240.0 points, while his compatriot Paolo Monna claimed bronze with 218.6 points. Notably, the three medalists were the only shooters to surpass 200 points in the final.
The competition was fierce from the start. After the first 10 rounds in the initial stage of the final, Xie was in third place. In the second stage, with one shooter eliminated after every other round, Xie steadily advanced. He rose to the top after the 19th and 20th rounds, demonstrating exceptional focus and skill.
In the final four attempts, Xie scored a total of 39.8 points to maintain his lead and secure the gold medal in the French capital. His victory adds to China’s growing medal tally at the Games.
