The first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is poised to be awarded in the 10-meter air rifle mixed team final. Leading the charge for the Chinese shooting team are two rookie pairs: Huang Yuting teaming up with Sheng Lihao, and Han Jiayu partnering with Du Linshu. These talented young shooters are set to make a significant impact as they vie for the prestigious title for their country.
Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao have formed a formidable partnership since joining forces over a year ago. Dominating the shooting circuit, they’ve clinched six out of the seven competitions they’ve entered. Their impressive haul includes mixed team golds at the World Cup, the World Championships, and most recently, the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023.
Huang’s individual prowess was also on display at the Asian Games, where she secured the women’s 10-meter air rifle individual gold. Reflecting on her victory, Huang said, “I think I managed to beat myself today. I went through some ups and downs when I was preparing for the Asian Games. I had no burden today, did it right during the process, and beat myself in the end.”
The Chinese shooting squads have shown remarkable consistency this season. At the World Cup events in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Munich, Germany, Huang and Sheng once again stood atop the podium, bringing home mixed team titles and affirming their solid form ahead of the Paris Olympics.
As the countdown to the Olympics continues, anticipation builds around these young athletes. Their dedication and outstanding performance set the stage for a thrilling competition. The world will be watching as they aim for gold, hoping to add another illustrious chapter to China’s storied legacy in Olympic shooting sports.
