Eddie Howe Affirms Commitment to Newcastle Amid England Speculation

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has expressed his desire to remain with the club, dismissing speculation linking him to the England national team manager position.

The rumors emerged after England parted ways with Gareth Southgate following their runner-up finish at Euro 2024 in Germany.

The English Football Association (FA) announced on Friday that it is seeking candidates for the vacant position, having posted a public advertisement on its official website.

Despite reports suggesting that Howe is among the FA’s preferred candidates, the 45-year-old manager has reiterated his commitment to Newcastle United.

“Really, there has been no thought in my mind on anything else and I have been very committed to the job here,” Howe told BBC Radio. “For me, as long as I am happy and feel supported and feel free to do the work that I love to do at Newcastle, I’ll be very happy – and I am very happy.”

Howe took over at Newcastle in November 2021 and has since transformed the club’s fortunes. Under his leadership, the team has achieved impressive results, finishing fourth and seventh in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Premier League seasons, respectively.

Newcastle United, acquired by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia in October 2021, has been seen as a rising force in English football. While avoiding blockbuster signings, the club has been building a competitive squad focused on solid players and long-term success.

With 60 wins, 30 draws, and 35 losses in 125 games under Howe, the Magpies are aiming to continue their ascent in the Premier League.

The FA stated that it has “already identified a number of candidates” for the England manager position, with a closing date for applications set for August 2.

As the speculation continues, Howe remains focused on his role at Newcastle United, aiming to build on the club’s recent progress and achieve greater success in the seasons ahead.
