The Horn of Africa region is set to experience warmer-than-usual temperatures during the August to October season, as reported by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) climate prediction agency on Saturday.
According to the latest update from the Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC) of IGAD, temperatures in some countries within the region could soar up to 35 degrees Celsius.
However, normal to cooler-than-normal temperatures are anticipated in some parts of eastern Sudan and the adjacent areas of Ethiopia and Eritrea, the ICPAC noted.
The Horn of Africa region comprises Djibouti, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, as well as Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.
In addition to the higher temperatures, the ICPAC highlighted that the eastern parts of the Horn of Africa are expected to be drier than usual during the August to October season, while the northern sector is projected to be wetter than usual.
"The Horn of Africa is one of the regions most vulnerable to climate-related risks, experiencing highly variable and erratic rainfall, together with rising temperatures, droughts, and floods that have increased in frequency and intensity in recent years," the ICPAC stated.
