The squad comprises eight stellar players: Wang Chuqin, Fan Zhendong, Ma Long, Liang Jingkun, Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng, Wang Manyu, and Wang Yidi. The competitions kick off with the mixed doubles preliminary round on July 27 and culminate with the women’s team final on August 10.
According to China Media Group (CMG), the team plans to enter the Olympic Village on July 22. Liu Guoliang, president of the Chinese Table Tennis Association, shared that the initial week in Paris will be dedicated to acclimating and overcoming jet lag. This preparation underscores the team’s commitment to peak performance.
China, a longstanding powerhouse in table tennis, clinched four out of five gold medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. Returning champions Fan Zhendong, Ma Long, Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng, and Wang Manyu are eager to defend their titles and add to their nation’s medal tally.
Expressing his enthusiasm, veteran player Ma Long said, “I’m both happy and excited to be back on such a stage.” His teammate Wang Chuqin added, “I think I have been growing better and better both physically and mentally.” Fan Zhendong conveyed his readiness, stating, “After recent preparation, training, and practice, I think I’m ready for the Olympic Games.”
On the women’s side, Sun Yingsha shared her pride: “I feel both excited and proud to be in this national team jersey.” Chen Meng, anticipating her second Olympic appearance, remarked, “This is my second Olympic Games and I’m excited about it.”
