Beijing, July 9 — President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau is set to embark on a historic state visit to China from July 9 to 13 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit marks a significant milestone in the longstanding friendship between the West African nation and China.
During his five-day visit, President Xi will host a welcome ceremony and a state banquet in honor of President Embaló. The two leaders are scheduled to hold talks aimed at deepening bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation. Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also meet with President Embaló to discuss mutual interests and collaboration opportunities.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries. “China’s friendship with Guinea-Bissau was cultivated by the older generation of leaders from both sides. In the 1970s, the Chinese people firmly supported the people of Guinea-Bissau in their pursuit of national independence and liberation,” Lin said during a press briefing on Monday.
In recent years, China and Guinea-Bissau have strengthened their partnership by supporting each other’s core interests and enhancing cooperation in economic and social development. The two nations have maintained open communication in international affairs, achieving significant progress in their friendly relations.
“This visit is expected to inject strong impetus into deepening relations between China and Guinea-Bissau and promote friendly bilateral cooperation,” Lin added.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to expand their economic ties. Guinea-Bissau, known for its rich natural resources and strategic location, offers numerous opportunities for investment in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and mining.
