In an exclusive interview with CMG’s Wang Guan, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić reflected on the enduring and ironclad bond between Serbia and China. Speaking in Belgrade, President Vučić discussed the significance of the recently signed Free Trade Agreement between the two nations, envisioning a future of strengthened economic ties and broader regional impact.
Recalling the hardships Serbia faced during the wave of bombings 25 years ago, President Vučić emphasized the lessons learned in preserving national sovereignty. He praised China for its unwavering support during difficult times, characterizing the relationship as one built on mutual respect and reliability.
“China has been supportive and reliable when others were not,” Vučić stated. He openly rejected the ‘debt trap’ narrative promoted by some Western countries, highlighting that Chinese businesses have heavily invested in Serbia, contributing to its development. “It’s not about the money; it’s about governance,” he remarked, underscoring China’s ability to provide innovative solutions.
The President also extended an invitation to the Chinese people to visit Serbia and experience genuine European hospitality. He expressed optimism for increased people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, seeing it as a vital component of the bilateral relationship.
The new Free Trade Agreement marks a significant milestone, fostering closer economic collaboration. President Vučić believes this will not only benefit Serbia and China but also have a positive impact on the broader region. “We are forging a path towards shared prosperity,” he concluded.
