Beijing, October 11, 2023 — In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto on Wednesday in Beijing. The two nations pledged to enhance collaboration in global multilateral forums and deepen their strategic partnership.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Venezuela. Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the importance of this milestone. He called for both countries to develop strategic plans with a forward-looking perspective to infuse new energy into their all-weather strategic partnership.
“China supports Venezuela in safeguarding its national sovereignty and dignity,” Wang Yi stated. “We stand with Venezuela as it explores a development path suited to its national conditions.”
Highlighting economic cooperation, Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to work with Venezuela to expand bilateral trade and diversify areas of collaboration. “We are committed to helping Venezuela accelerate its industrialization process and achieve economic diversification,” he added.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil Pinto echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for China’s support. He reaffirmed Venezuela’s commitment to strengthening ties with China and collaborating on issues of mutual interest on the global stage.
The meeting underscores the growing relationship between Beijing and Caracas, particularly in the face of global challenges. Both nations reiterated their dedication to multilateralism and cooperation in international affairs.
