At the opening ceremony of the 12th World Peace Forum in Beijing on Saturday, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng called for enhanced global cooperation to improve security governance, safeguard fairness and justice, and promote international security collaboration.
Addressing an audience of former political dignitaries, diplomatic envoys, experts, and scholars from around the world, Han emphasized that the world is experiencing profound changes unseen in a century. He stated that China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and an important member of the Global South, is committed to staying on the right course amid these changes.
Three-Point Proposal for Global Security
Han Zheng outlined a three-point proposal to bolster global security governance:
- Adhering to Peaceful Coexistence: Marking the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, Han reaffirmed China's dedication to its foreign policy of safeguarding world peace and promoting common development. He emphasized that China seeks to inject greater stability and certainty into global affairs.
- Advocating Common Security: Han stressed that China champions a concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. He expressed China's willingness to actively explore and implement solutions with Chinese characteristics to address global security challenges and hotspot issues.
- Promoting Openness and Inclusiveness: Han called on all countries to uphold openness and inclusiveness to promote world peace and development. He noted that China is ready to work collaboratively with other nations to jointly safeguard global peace and stability.
"The Chinese nation loves peace, and China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order," Han declared.
He expressed hope that participants of the forum would engage in thorough exchanges, build consensus, and contribute wisdom and strength to improving global security governance.
