Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for building a shared home characterized by solidarity, mutual trust, peace, tranquility, prosperity, development, good neighborliness, friendship, fairness, and justice. President Xi made these remarks while attending the expanded meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), known as SCO+, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Noting the rising insecurity, uncertainty, and instability in the world, President Xi emphasized the imperative for member states to uphold the Shanghai Spirit. He urged them to follow development paths suited to their national conditions to jointly build a more promising future for the SCO.
A Common Home of Solidarity, Mutual Trust, and Peace
Calling for bridging differences and enhancing mutual trust through strategic communication, President Xi encouraged SCO members to strengthen exchanges on governance experiences. He proposed holding an SCO political party forum at an appropriate time to foster deeper understanding.
“Real security can only be realized when every country is secure,” President Xi stated. He urged member states to expedite the establishment of a universal center and its branches to address security threats and challenges. Additionally, he advocated for building an anti-narcotics center, strengthening intelligence sharing, and conducting joint operations to safeguard regional security.
Highlighting Afghanistan’s role as an indispensable part of regional security, President Xi called for increasing humanitarian support for the country. He encouraged Afghanistan to establish a broad-based and inclusive political structure and embark on a path of peace and reconstruction.
