Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday to attend the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and to pay a state visit at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
As President Xi’s plane entered Kazakh airspace, two fighter jets from the Kazakh Air Defense Forces escorted it, symbolizing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. Upon arrival at the airport, President Tokayev, along with other senior Kazakh officials, greeted Xi and held a grand welcome ceremony in his honor.
In a written statement released upon his arrival, President Xi extended sincere greetings and best wishes to the people of Kazakhstan on behalf of the Chinese government and people. He noted that China and Kazakhstan have established a unique, permanent comprehensive strategic partnership, setting an exemplary model of mutually beneficial relations between neighboring countries.
“During my visit, I look forward to holding talks with President Tokayev and engaging in in-depth exchanges on China-Kazakhstan relations, comprehensive cooperation, and international and regional issues of common concern,” Xi stated. “Together, we will devise new plans and arrangements for the development of the China-Kazakhstan permanent comprehensive strategic partnership.”
President Xi also expressed his anticipation for attending the SCO summit, emphasizing the importance of discussing the organization’s future and advancing cooperation among member states. “I am committed to working with all parties to achieve new and greater progress for this significant multilateral mechanism,” he added.
The SCO summit provides a platform for member countries to collaborate on regional security, economic development, and cultural exchange. President Xi’s visit underscores China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Kazakhstan and other SCO members, fostering stability and prosperity in the region.
