Paris Prepares for 2024 Olympics with Athletics Test Event at Renovated Stade de France

In a significant step towards the 2024 Summer Olympics, an operational track and field test was conducted on Tuesday at the newly renovated Stade de France in Paris. Young athletes from France and abroad gathered to trial the state-of-the-art facilities that will host various athletics events when the Games commence on July 26.

The Stade de France has undergone extensive renovations since 2021 to prepare for the global spectacle. Among the notable upgrades are nearly 150 new sports floodlights utilizing energy-efficient LED technology, providing enhanced illumination for athletes and spectators alike. Additionally, architectural lights have been installed to brighten the stadium’s roof, enabling dynamic light shows that promise to elevate the visual experience during events.

Enhanced viewing features have also been introduced, including giant screens each spanning over 240 square meters—the size of tennis courts—ensuring that audiences catch every moment of the action. The stadium is set to be the stage for 43 athletics events, 160 para-athletics competitions, and two rugby sevens games throughout the Olympics.

French sprinter Raphalledy Guillaume shared his impressions after competing on the new track. “Honestly, the track looks great. I felt like I was flying, even though I got off to a bad start in my series,” he said. “I still managed to keep going and make up more than ten seconds. Unfortunately, I couldn’t beat my PB (personal best), but it’s still a great experience running here. The track allows us to take off.”

The test event not only assessed the readiness of the facilities but also provided valuable experience for athletes ahead of the Games. The successful trial underscores Paris’s commitment to hosting an unforgettable Olympics, with innovations aimed at enhancing performance and spectator enjoyment.
