CMG Strengthens Copyright Alliances Ahead of Paris 2024 Olympics
China Media Group (CMG) convened its 2024 Copyright Ecology Cooperation Conference in Beijing on Wednesday, forging significant partnerships to enhance copyright protection and innovation in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
As one of the main broadcasters accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the upcoming Games, CMG signed coverage agreements with prominent platforms, including China Mobile’s entertainment arm Migu and popular short video platform Douyin, the Chinese counterpart of TikTok. These collaborations aim to expand CMG’s reach and enrich content delivery to diverse audiences.
In addition to media platforms, CMG entered into copyright cooperation agreements with major publishers such as the China Publishing Group. These alliances are set to bolster the development and protection of intellectual property rights, fostering a robust environment for cultural and technological innovation.
Driving Innovation through Copyright Protection
Peng Jianming, General Director of CMG’s Executive Office, emphasized the pivotal role of copyright in stimulating societal innovation and promoting high-quality economic development. “As a comprehensive international media carrier with the world’s largest volume and scale, CMG possesses a vast reserve of copyright resources and a strong capacity for original content production,” Peng stated.
He highlighted that the conference serves to unite industry wisdom, using copyright as a catalyst and the Paris Olympic Games as an opportunity to drive new quality productive forces. “Our goal is to achieve win-win outcomes that enhance CMG’s communication power and influence,” Peng added.
Fostering a Healthy Copyright Ecosystem
Yan Xiaohong, Chairman of the Copyright Society of China, underscored the immense commercial and cultural value of the Olympic Games. “As a global sports event with the broadest audience, the Olympics not only represent the pinnacle of sports competition but also act as a bridge for cultural exchange,” Yan remarked.
He stressed the importance of stringent copyright protection to prevent abuse or infringement of Olympic logos and events. “We hope to establish a robust copyright ecosystem through the Olympic copyright trade, promoting the development of the sports industry and international cooperation,” Yan expressed.
Commitment to Intellectual Property Rights
Sun Baolin, Director General of the China Copyright Protection Center, highlighted the significance of copyright in fostering new high-quality productive forces and maintaining China’s image as a nation that honors its commitments. “Protecting intellectual property rights is crucial for innovation and economic growth,” Sun noted.
Echoing this sentiment, Zang Yongqing, Vice President of China Publishing & Media Co., Ltd, spoke about the company’s deep-rooted cooperation with CMG. “We aim to leverage the strengths of both sides to further develop high-quality copyright resources,” Zang said.
International Recognition and Collaboration
Anne-Sophie Voumard of the IOC, in a video message, thanked CMG for its unwavering efforts in broadcasting and reporting on the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games. She emphasized the IOC’s commitment to working with partners like CMG to respect copyright laws and foster an environment that values intellectual property rights and innovation in sports.
Launching New Initiatives
During the conference, CMG also launched a special campaign focused on the innovative development and management of its valuable intellectual property resources. This initiative aims to promote the creative evolution of fine traditional culture, further solidifying CMG’s role in driving cultural advancement.
