As Germany prepares to face Hungary in the UEFA European Championship group stage on Wednesday, head coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed confidence in his squad’s unique mix of seasoned veterans and ambitious young talents.
With ten of the 26 players aged 30 or older, Germany brings the oldest team to the tournament. However, the infusion of youthful energy from rising stars like Florian Wirtz (21), Jamal Musiala (21), and Kai Havertz (25) has already made a significant impact, evidenced by their impressive 5-1 victory over Scotland in the Euro 2024 opener.
“We have to find new solutions because we’re the oldest squad; we need to have more younger players in the future,” Nagelsmann acknowledged. “But for this tournament, it’s the perfect mix, and we can be very successful.”
The coach emphasized the importance of synergy between the different generations within the team. “It’s always good to have a good mix between experienced players and young, talented players,” he said. “I think it’s important that the young players are open-minded, listen to the older players with experience to improve.”
Nagelsmann believes that this harmonious blend could be the key to Germany’s success in the championship. “The experience of our senior players combined with the creativity and dynamism of the younger ones gives us a unique advantage,” he added.
As Germany looks ahead to the match against Hungary, fans are eager to see how this balance of experience and youth will play out on the pitch.
