Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has affirmed China’s commitment to work closely with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to achieve common development and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

In a congratulatory letter to a forum on China-ASEAN future relations held on Wednesday in Jakarta, Indonesia, Wang expressed China’s readiness to join hands with ASEAN partners. The forum focused on deepening ties and exploring avenues for mutual growth between China and ASEAN member states.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the shared development paths and modernization concepts between China and ASEAN. “As friendly and close neighbors and reliable long-term comprehensive strategic partners, China is willing to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with ASEAN,” he stated. He also reaffirmed China’s firm support for ASEAN’s community building efforts and its central role in the regional architecture.

Highlighting a significant milestone, Wang noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. He pointed out the alignment of these principles with the spirits of the Ten Principles of the Bandung Conference and the ASEAN Charter. Wang expressed hope that participants at the forum would generate valuable insights and suggestions for the future development of China-ASEAN relations, and contribute to building a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future.

Wang Yi called for collective efforts to inject new impetus into the promotion of an equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive and universally beneficial economic globalization. “Both sides should join hands with all parties to provide new momentum for these goals,” he added.

The forum in Jakarta served as a platform for dialogue and cooperation, reflecting the ongoing commitment of China and ASEAN to foster stronger ties and address regional challenges collaboratively.
