The 16th Straits Forum concluded on June 15 in Xiamen, Fujian Province, bringing renewed vitality to cross-strait exchanges between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region. Established in 2009, the forum has become a pivotal platform for fostering cooperation across various sectors, including economy, culture, youth, and grassroots communities.
This year’s forum featured four major sections: grassroots exchanges, youth exchanges, cultural exchanges, and economic exchanges. Covering a wide range of fields from high-end technology and finance to agriculture and healthcare, the event showcased significant achievements in social and economic integration, highlighting Fujian’s overall development.
A special emphasis was placed on youth exchanges, with over 1,600 employment opportunities offered to young people from Taiwan. Through a series of interactive activities, the forum aimed to promote understanding and cooperation among the younger generations on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
In efforts to deepen and expand economic integration, the forum facilitated cooperation agreements between institutions and enterprises. Numerous projects in Fujian covering technology finance, healthcare, and intelligent manufacturing were launched, paving the way for residents of Taiwan to share in the development opportunities of the Chinese mainland and participate in the process of Chinese modernization.
Additionally, grassroots cohesion was enhanced through activities closely related to people’s daily lives. By promoting interaction at the community level, the forum helped bring residents on both sides closer together, strengthening mutual understanding and identification.
The Straits Forum continues to demonstrate that peace, development, exchange, and cooperation are the common pursuits of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Its enduring influence underscores the unstoppable momentum of cross-strait relations moving toward mutual benefit and shared prosperity.
